Our Mission
The ultimate mission of the School of Classical Studies is to facilitate intellectual and spiritual progress in students through the academic pursuit of a classical curriculum comprising the study of liberal arts originating from prominent cultures, philosophies and religions. This serves to rekindle amongst students traditional understandings, values and virtues, which transcend eras and regions but, rather, reflect eternal and universal truths that remain unwaveringly relevant to the modern context.
Student Testimonials
SCS in my view fills in a void left by other institutes, it combines tradition and the sweetness of it alongside the realities within which we find ourselves today. It is taught by someone who has drank from pure oceans and is now passing this on to our community in the UK. There is a place for everyone, whether you are a Muslim who wants to know more about your faith or a scholar looking to go to the next level. This is all conducted in interactive and enjoyable lessons where you are made to feel comfortable in asking questions regardless of how basic or difficult. I would encourage anyone who is reading this to apply to study at SCS without any hesitation and feel the sweetness of this pure religion.
-Adeel Hussain (Sufi Traditions & Advanced Textual Studies)
I have the privilege and blessing of studying Arabic with Shaykh Badreldeen for a few years now. Shaykh Badreldeen through his unique method of teaching has changed the way I interact with the Arabic language. The Shaykh’s method of teaching instils a connection with the language at a deeper and more intimate level, where I find myself not only applying the rules but reflecting upon them and the words. Every class feels like a journey of intellectual, spiritual and emotional enlightenment.
On numerous occasions, I have gone in feeling tired and down and left the class feeling uplifted and energised. The atmosphere in the class is always filled with peace and tranquility; we are all made to feel very comfortable in class. Shaykh Badreldeen encourages us all to partake in the class and through his rich questioning enables us to learn better. Shaykh Badreldeen has a sincere concern for our learning and it truly is an honour to study with him.
-Sabahat Qurban (Arabic Language & The Qur’anic Circle)
I have been a student in the Advanced Arabic Literature class for more than one year. The benefit has been immense. Shaykh Badreldeen Al-Husayni is a gifted teacher with a deep understanding of the Arabic language. He is able to rapidly establish the level of his students and tailor his teaching appropriately in a friendly and unpatronising manner. He also has the rare ability to keep all the students in the class involved in spite of different ability and background. Learning with a scholar of this calibre is a true blessing and highly recommended. I hope to continue my studies with him for many years to come.
-Dr Imran Khan (Classical Literature)
I have been attending the Gathering of Knowledge class for four years. Shaykh Badreldeen’s extensive knowledge, partnered with an engaging teaching style, has not only made these classes enriching but also very interesting. I have greatly benefited from the wide variety of topics covered in class and particularly value the large focus on spirituality.
- Sarah Mehanna (The Qur’anic Circle & Traditional Islamic Sciences)
Shaykh Badreldeen is a superb teacher. His own love of the Arabic language in its perfect (non-slang) form, coupled with his references to relevant Quranic quotations, makes this class very special as his enthusiasm is pervasive and positive. Shaykh is always willing to help and strives to ensure the student understands the content. The pace is appropriate to the class ability rather than being forced to satisfy an external timetable. Shaykh said at the start that this is a journey.
I have been on this journey for the past two and a half years now and I have every intention to keep attending as mastery of even the basics takes time. A short, sharp 10 week crash course cannot ever equip you with the deeper and practised understanding in comparison to the journey that undoubtedly is the learning of Arabic. I find it is addictive and enjoyable and I like the book we use. Highly recommended.
-Athar Siddiqiui (Arabic Language)
Shaykh Badreldeen is a truly world class teacher and moreover a beautiful person. His knowledge of the Islamic sciences is extensive. I have been privileged enough to be a student in the brothers Qur'anic Circle class, Advanced Arabic Literature & Language class and the Sunday evening Gatherings of Knowledge lectures exclusively delivered in Classical Arabic. It is rare to be able to study such a variety of sciences from beginner levels to more advanced levels. Where else can you undertake the deep study of Classical Arabic poems such as Ka’b ibn Zuhair’s Banat Su’ad?
-Dr Idnan Yunus (Classical Literature)
Studying poetry like this from such a Shaykh is beyond words. Anyone with an interest in Arabic and Arabic literature must take the Advanced Arabic Literate Programme as the lessons you learn from each line of poetry are deep and layered and will give you a deep understanding of the Arabic language.
-Ustadh Saqib Hussain (Classical Literature & 10 Modes of Qur’anic Recitation)
Studying at SCS has changed my life. The classes increase my thirst to achieve knowledge and understanding, not only within Arabic but it has also strengthened my knowledge with the English language. The interactive and involved teaching makes me believe that I would not find this level of learning with any other school. It is very difficult to articulate how amazing the class is, I would encourage anyone to try the classes as I am confident you will be addicted.

Over the past couple of months, since I have joined this course, my experience has been fantastic. It has been an amazing way to enhance my knowledge of the Arabic language and as someone who has searched for Arabic that is effective, accessible and affordable, I can say with 100% confidence that the School of Classical studies delivers on so many levels.
The high calibre of Sayyid Shaykh Badreldeen’s teachings and knowledge of the Arabic language has pushed me to progress with my studies and with each lesson has given me the patience to succeed. He has been very supportive of everyone's journey and has been an important factor for us to continue with our studies. He is amazingly patient and humble. It is an honour to be here, learning things that will shape our future and pave our way to a better understanding of the Holy Qur’an. This has been one of the greatest decisions of my life without a doubt; it is a privilege to be a student at SCS and I would urge everyone to please join.
May Allah (SWT) reward our teacher for opening the School of Classical Studies. I wish them all the success for the future In shaa Allah.
-Uzma Iqbal (Arabic Language)
I am currently studying The Qur'anic Circle and Arabic Language with Shaykh Badreldeen. I am thoroughly enjoying the course; the structure and course content are very good and the Shaykh’s method of teaching the language before introducing the grammar is a suitable approach for me. There is a great balance between the grammar and conversational language and this keeps the course interesting.
Everyone is encouraged to participate and there is plenty of time to ask questions. There is a sense of sister/brotherhood in the class like we are all part of one family. I cannot praise the Shaykh enough for his time, effort and dedication in helping us to better our connection with Allah (Subhana wa ta’ala).
The School of Classical Studies team is doing an amazing job at making sure we have plenty of support. All in all, I would thoroughly recommend these courses to everyone.
-Sumayya Pervaiz (Arabic Language & The Qur’anic Circle)
This unique course at SCS has enabled me to expand my knowledge and added new dimensions to my prior knowledge of Arabic. When preparing for homework, this course has given me the confidence to approach various different advanced books. Shaykh Badreldeen then not only collates, summarises and adds to what we learnt but he also often gives us Arabic couplets on the subject matter to make it easier for memorisation. In addition we have great modern classroom facilities and free onsite parking.
-Sohail Mahroof (Classical Literature)
It has now been a few months since I began my studies at the School of Classical Studies and have already reaped the benefits of this amazing course. May God reward our teacher Shaykh Badreldeen for making this a comfortable, stimulating and an enjoyable learning journey to understand the beautiful language of the Qur’an. I would recommend this course for anyone interested in learning the Arabic language no matter what your age or background.

“Further to years of intense education and training under the tutelage of prominent scholars amongst the previous generation, I subsequently gained significant scholarly and research experience within western academia. This holistic insight highlighted to me the deficiencies which are apparent in existing educational methods and systems. To rectify these shortcomings, I present the School of Classical Studies - a unique educational offering - which resurrects traditional virtues and principles in a manner pertinent to the unique challenges of this modern era.”
